Choosing to reconnect with yourself is the first step, now it’s about taking action to become you again.

RECONNECT WITH YOURSELF AFTER BECOMING A MOTHER

Everyone prepares for the physical changes’ motherhood brings but it has a greater emotional and maturity impact on us and it’s easy to get trapped into the routine of just being a mama.

Last week you could sleep, shower, and eat whenever you wanted and this week you are figuring out how to be a mom to a newborn.

Motherhood is the most special transition in a woman’s life, but it can also be the most challenging time. Once you have a good routine and get the hang of it, you’ve realized that you haven’t gotten yourself ready in 3 months.

(Changing your pajamas and brushing your hair only counts as getting ready for so long!)

MOTHERHOOD IS TIRING

New mom exhaustion is a real thing! I am all for napping while you can, but it is also important to make sure you are eating enough for more energy and practicing self-care which can look different for everyone.

Naps are great, I am not saying don’t take them, I am saying to prioritize time management to fit self-care and a nap into your busy schedule.

NEW BABY, NEW YOU

It’s no secret that having a baby will change you into a new version of yourself – the mommy version. You will never be you without your baby again so it’s time to find out who you are as a mom.

You may wonder how to reconnect with yourself, but the truth is that you are still you, just plus one (or more.)

RECONNECT WITH YOURSELF AS A MOTHER

Connecting with yourself as a mother really is as easy as writing down things you like to do that make you feel good, prioritizing them, and finding the time to do them.

Then you just stick to doing them and you’ll be confident in who you are as a mom in a month!

Even if you only have a little time, it is still time that you can have for yourself if you choose to.

Your first step is making time to think about realistic things you can do for yourself and to make it even easier for you, here is a list of how to connect with yourself when you feel lost as a mother.

– MINDFUL EATING

Eating mindfully is about awareness and intention – When you eat mindfully, you are fully emotionally and physically aware of your food choices.

Research has shown that mindful eating has a wide range of benefits including greater psychological well-being, and increased pleasure when eating.

– MEDITATION

The good news, you don’t need a sanctuary to meditate- in fact, you can meditate anywhere and at any time during your day.

Meditating is focusing your attention on a thought or object for a period of time while simultaneously breathing in a flow to achieve an emotionally calm and mentally clear state.

In short, you’re going to your “happy place” in the midst of whatever chaos the day brings. Newborn crying, toddler whining, dog barking, you name it!

Meditating can be your key to becoming a mindful mother.

– MOVING YOUR BODY

Sometimes all we need is a simple full body stretch, or maybe a quick at-home workout.

Moving our bodies in whatever way is a quick and easy way to release endorphins, making us feel a sense of euphoria.

Most people don’t like physically working out, they chase the aftereffects working out does for them. Of course, health benefits are important too!

– JOURNALING

You’ll need to take a little more time out of your day for journaling, but it is a rewarding habit to start. Start your mornings with thought-provoking journal prompts or end your day with reflection in your journal.

Whichever way you choose to journal, it’s bound to release emotions and allow reconnection with yourself.

– FINDING YOUR STYLE

They don’t call it personal style for no reason. You have changed as a person; you’ve become a mother! It’s only right that your style has changed as well.

Don’t let weight stop you from exploring a new wardrobe. Your weight will fluctuate throughout your whole life and so does your style!

Revamping the old clothes in your closet and adding some bling or tears is a great budget-friendly and sustainable way to find your new look.

– DECLUTTERING/DECORATING YOUR SPACE

Personal style doesn’t stop with clothing, adding your own touch to the room can brighten up your mood and reconnect you with yourself.

Colors and patterns have proven to affect our emotional well-being. Natural lighting keeps things fresh while dim lighting can be more relaxing.

Untidiness usually leads to an increase in stress in people’s lives, so it’s important to keep your home clean for your wellbeing.

– SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Reconnect with yourself by connecting with friends and family.

Make new memories with the people you love and remember why they love you while you learn how to reconnect with who you are as a person, mom, friend, etc.
